Blue Jays’ Marco Estrada: One poor inning ruins Wednesday’s outing

METS 4, REDS 3 Yoenis Cespedes returned from a leg injury to line a tying, three-run homer as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning off Brandon Finnegan, slumping David Wright had a go-ahead single later in the inning and NY rallied past Cincinnati for its 10th straight win against the Reds. Dioner Navarro provided the big blow with a two-out, two-run triple – his first since 2012 – and the Sox went on to complete their second consecutive sweep. Navarro then tripled to right-center, breaking a scoreless tie and knocking Jays starter Marco Estrada from the game.

“I don’t know, it didn’t feel very good”, Estrada said when asked if his shoulder was okay.

There was nothing else I could I do. He was getting ahead of his hitters with all of his pitches – fastball, breaking ball, everything. “I was fortunate enough to get a chanegup in the strike zone and put some good wood on it”.

Chris Sale allowed just four hits and struck out six while his opposite number R.A. Dickey allowed six runs over six innings.

The Blue Jays were held to a total of one run over the final two games of the series after blowing a 5-1 lead and losing the opener 7-5.

The Toronto Blue Jays have the day off after suffering their first sweep of the season and falling below.

“Q came out and pitched his butt off, which we love to see”, Eaton said. Hopefully, a day off and a change of scenery can break the Jays’ bats out of their slump.

Now with the Chicago White Sox, he used that knowledge to pick apart his former team.

“Estrada probably took something off. Different styles going in there”.

Both starting pitchers were dominant through the first six innings, keeping the game scoreless and the basepaths relatively clear. We got the hits when we needed them. With Estrada in the dugout, the White Sox tacked on two more runs.

Todd Frazier greeted Estrada with a single, but was forced out at second on Melky Cabrera’s grounder to short.

Carlos Santana had three hits and Francisco Lindor knocked in three runs to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 6-5 win over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night at Target Field.

“I filled up that zero”.

A year ago, even before their late-season surge to the top of the standings, they always hit. I didn’t want to get shot if I’d gone out there (to pull him).

Jesse Chavez relieved, and Austin Jackson tripled.

St. Louis shortstop Aledmys Diaz had two hits and a homer and right-hander Adam Wainwright’s bases-loaded triple keyed a five-run sixth inning in the Cardinals’ 11-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Wednesday.

“I said something to the third base umpire about a checked swing”, said Gibbons. Jimmy Rollins struck out, though, and Jose Abreu flied out to end the threat.

Quintana, whose pitch count was 104 through six innings, didn’t have to come out for a seventh to get a decision.

As is his custom, Estrada generated loads of weak contact on Wednesday, inducing a smattering of infield pops and limp grounders from the White Sox, who had little answer for his stealthy mix of pitches for most of the night.
