Cruz Tosses Second “Hail Mary” Pass, Names Carly Fiorina as His VP
T he Republican presidential candidate, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, has named Carly Fiorina as his running mate, should he win his party’s nomination.

“I have said from the beginning the most important attribute for any running mate is that he or she should be prepared to step in and fulfill the role as president”, Cruz said Wednesday in Indianapolis at a campaign stop.
Cruz told Tony Katz in a radio interview that Fiorina was on a short list of 17 candidates that had been winnowed down from 40 prospective choices.
Fiorina, the former Hewlett Packard chief executive who lived for a time in Palo Alto, is liked by Republican voters there.
Polls indicate Cruz, 45, is already destined to lose the early May primaries in Indiana, Nebraska and West Virginia, the paper noted in its analysis. Its goal was still to get Fiorina elected president, but on June 18, it got $500,000 – a fifth of what it had raised to that point – from a group that wanted to elect Cruz.
But she said Thursday that even she and her husband don’t agree on everything, let alone she and running mate. “(She’s) someone who’s got a proven record, who’s been vetted by a candidate, I thought it was a smart move”.
Cruz emerged from the five contests with exactly one delegate, from Rhode Island – fewer even than John Kasich, who won five from the same state.
In addition, during her presidential nomination, Fiorina also was routinely criticized not only for lying on the campaign trail, but for doubling down on her statements when presented with evidence that what she said wasn’t true. “I know your governor, Mike Pence, is working hard on that, but when we have the highest tax rate in the world, when the regulatory burden is so unbelievable heavy right now, this isn’t the best place to put a job anymore”, she said. I don’t think so. Andrews University student Jade Romelus said Cruz’s empathy was appealing. “Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are virtually indistinguishable on policy issues across the field”. Fiorina’s image took a major hit here in California, and her campaign did not raise the resources they needed to tell her story on her own terms. Like many other candidates, her campaign was marred by public and personal clashes with Donald Trump.

But what should have been a slam dunk for Cruz quickly turned into a foul Tuesday night when he appeared to refer to the hoop as a “basketball ring” while recreating a scene from the famous film “Hoosiers”.
