VIENNA, Austria – From the crowd of thousands, to the paparazzi and movie stars, the world premiere of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation was a spectacle. While there’s a number of reasons that’s the case, Zap2it has come up with the five most important. The director manages to do this in a strong fashion without making the movie feel heavy or forced.
“Meanwhile, Mission Impossible was put off, put off, put off. And if I had decided to do that, I wouldn’t have been in X-Men and I wouldn’t have been in Lord Of The Rings”. But nobody can claim that Rogue Nation didn’t give them their money’s worth – there’s enough intrigue and action to overstuff three of the lackluster summer flicks we’ve been getting lately.
Edge of Tomorrow was one of last year’s biggest genre surprises, a sci-fi movie that felt inventive, fun, and powerful without ever taking itself too seriously.
There seems to be a classic feeling to Rogue Nation, a film that embraces the old spy tropes rather than run from them. There’s a definite chemistry between the two, but it’s more about a mutual respect and admiration for their abilities than anything else. “Do you [have] plans to do another one?” (“Turandot” goes blithely on, despite assassinations and hand-to-hand combat in the wings.) And he doesn’t turn this story into a star vehicle for Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, who shares the laurels with others.
Alec Baldwin is Central Intelligence Agency director Alan Hunley who is headhunting Hunt and the International Monetary Fund team as he wants this operation shut down.
The rest of the cast doesn’t get a lot to do, bar a nicely beefed up role for Simon Pegg’s Benji.

Almost 20 years after the debut of 1996’s original Mission: Impossible movie, the now-middle-aged actor is still hanging off airplanes and doing many of his own stunts for the thrillers. While there are still plenty of jokes, it’s nice to see the character evolve. Watch Tom hold his breath for a long time underwater!
