After grabbing Goff, Rams finally get 4 more picks Saturday

Goff went No. 1 overall to the Rams on Thursday for their first pick since they moved to Los Angeles in the offseason.

Team officials had been tight-lipped about their plans for the pick since they acquired the pick from the Titans. We reserve the right to edit a comment that is quoted or excerpted in an article. A few things we won’t tolerate: personal attacks, obscenity, vulgarity, profanity (including expletives and letters followed by dashes), commercial promotion, impersonations, incoherence, proselytizing and SHOUTING. “I think I can bring a lot to the table. They’re getting a good one”.

With Goff chosen by the Rams, North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz, the other prime quarterback in the draft, was snapped up by the Philadelphia Eagles as second outright pick.

University of California quarterback Jared Goff was the first player picked in the NFL Draft in the early hours on Friday morning in Chicago. Both players had been widely predicted to be first off the board, with the New York Times pointing out that Goff is considered the passer with the most long-term promise, though it might take longer to develop his talent.

“I still didn’t know until Jared (Goff) got the phone call”, Wentz said, Goff going as expected to the Rams, first overall, Wentz sitting with him in the green room. “I think how I felt with them and how they felt with me, I think there was similar thoughts about the way the game works, and I’m just excited to go down there and get a chance to work with them”. No, but for someone like Goff, who not a threat with his legs and is taking over an offense than ranked 32nd in passing previous year, the above statement might actually be a reach.

“Jared has the skill set to be a difference maker at the position, from arm strength to mobility”, Fisher said.

The Rams’ first regular-season game is September 12 against the 49ers in Santa Clara.

“I really hope Yasiel Puig gets a fastball in his ribs tomorrow”, read Goff’s 2013 tweet, which doesn’t come close to matching Larry Nance Jr.’s old tweet about Kobe Bryant, but is still fiery enough. “Standing at 6’4” and 210 pounds, Goff is National Football League ready and projects to be the Rams starter on Opening Day.

Goff was the target all along, a quarterback the Rams believe can start on Day 1 and someone they can lean on not just to manage games but put his imprint on when needed. Six recruiting services listed him as a four-star recruit out of Marin Catholic High School – one short of the maximum – while one gave him three stars.

The California-born and bred Goff heard all the same talk.

The No. 16 jersey was worn by fictional Rams quarterback Tom Jarrett (Warren Beatty) in the 1978 film comedy “Heaven Can Wait”. They watched him play for three years and know him personally, but when the Rams announced their pick there was bedlam in the dining hall Roughly every free member of the Cal football team was not only on their feet but up on tables and chairs screaming their lungs out at the success of a young man who led them for three years.
