‘Amazed’ royal couple wanted to know more about Taj, says their guide
Never a couple to turn away from Diana’s legacy-Kate wears Diana’s engagement ring, and her and William’s daughter Charlotte has Diana as a middle name-the duke and duchess did indeed make time for a photocall on what has since been named the ‘Diana bench’.

Diana’s solo visit to the 17th-century mausoleum – built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife – came to symbolise her unhappy marriage to Prince Charles.
“It’s a handsome place, stunning designs in there”, said the 33-year-old prince, while Kate said: “It’s been really incredible to learn about the romance of the building, and really attractive architecture”.
William and Kate follow a long line of royals who have visited the Taj Mahal post-Independence.
The question over whether the couple would pose in front of the Taj Mahal has been subject to a lot of debate ever since it was first announced that they would be visiting India. The royal couple caused a great deal of excitement, with dozens of people taking pictures on their cellphones.
This is their last stop during their India-Bhutan world tour.
Kate, dazzling in a blue-and-white dress by Indian designer Naeem Khan, removed her sunglasses for the photo, which made her match Diana’s expression more closely.
“For the Duke of Cambridge, his mother’s visit to the Taj Mahal is not a particularly strong memory at all”, a source told WHO.
The most iconic photograph of Princess Diana is when Princess sat by herself on a bench in front of the Taj Mahal.
As they emerged from their private tour on Saturday afternoon, William and Kate were faced by reporters asking what the visit meant to them.
So a new photo was taken, on the same marble bench where Princess Diana sat before, and the press was invited.
They then flew to neighbouring Bhutan for two days, at the invitation of its King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema, before flying back to visit the Taj Mahal.
While in India, Will and Kate played cricket with Sachin Tendulkar, met actors and industrialists, lunched with Prime Minister Modi, visited Gandhi Smriti and went on safari in Kaziranga.

The royal couple was scheduled to leave for London on Saturday night. “That is the place where people who come here to see this place will sit”.
