Tunsil tries to tamp down furor regarding his draft freefall

When Tunsil was pressed about whether he took money, he said, “I’d have to say yeah”.

Miami VP of football operations Mike Tannenbaum, the former Jets general manager, said at Tunsil’s introductory news conference that he is comfortable that Tunsil won’t be an off-field problem. Considering how much money he potentially lost, it’s not hard to see why Tunsil would vigorously go after whoever was responsible for hacking his social media accounts.

After he was drafted by the Dolphins an exchange between Tunsil and an Ole Miss staff member that was about money was posted to Tunsil’s Instagram account, according to NFL.com.

Tunsil was less than forthcoming when he was asked about the situation during the press conference.

“They gave me a chance and (I’m going to show them) why”, Tunsil said.

Grier said Thursday night that Tunsil was the second-ranked player on their board.

“Somebody hacked my account”, said Tunsil during Thursday’s post-draft press conference.

That get-to-know-you process continued Friday, when Tunsil appeared at Dolphins training camp to meet with the media.

No official records have been presented that support Tunsil’s claim that his Twitter account was hacked, ABC News learned. “All of the decision makers in the room last night feel good about Laremy as a player and a person. It happened years ago”, Tunsil told the NFL Network of the video. A few hours later, Tunsil’s Instagram was hacked with someone posting text message conversations Tunsil had with Ole Miss staff about them paying his mom’s bills, which would constitute clear NCAA violations.

The turmoil around Laremy Tunsil’s arrival in the National Football League continued to reverberate Friday as his former college Ole Miss vowed to “aggressively investigate” his admission he took money from a coach there. We were familiar with all of the information.

The university has not disclosed what the violations the NCAA said it has committed, but Tunsil was suspended seven games last season after the NCAA ruled he received several illegal benefits, including the use of three loaner cars.

His stepfather reportedly filed a lawsuit against him Tuesday related to a confrontation in June, when the men were both charged with domestic violence against each other.

Tunsil is arguably the draft’s best player, but he fell all the way to the No. 13 pick, when the Dolphins finally grabbed him.

The first round of the NFL Draft is already over and Laremy Tunsil was ultimately picked by the Miami Dolphins.

In all, Tunsil lost approximately $8 million in signing bonuses but thankfully did not have his golden ticket ripped away from him and still ended up being a first-round pick.
