The decision follows a bad night for Sanders, in which he lost four out of five East Coast states that voted on Tuesday.
“It’s something we’ve been talking about for quite a while now”, Mr Briggs said.
In a front-runner’s rout, Donald Trump roared to victory Tuesday in five contests in the Northeast and declared himself the GOP’s “presumptive nominee”. “This is a process that we’ve done before of right-sizing the campaign as we move through the calendar”, he said.
Clinton’s strong showing heaps pressure on the well-funded Sanders, a self-declared democratic socialist senator from Vermont, even as he has vowed to fight on until theCalifornia primary on June 7.
Trump carried the state last week with 60.8% of the vote, capturing all 16 of the delegates up for grabs.

Meanwhile, Clinton is shifting her focus to a potential general election battle with the republican frontrunner, “The other day Mr. Trump accused me of playing the quote, woman card”. Sanders took Rhode Island, while Clinton won Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania, padding out an already sizable lead in pledged delegates and superdelegates.

The former secretary of state will have a number of opportunities to pick up delegates to reach the magic number, including IN on May 3 (when 92 delegates are up for grabs), and Kentucky (where 61 delegates are up for grabs) and OR (where 74) on May 17.
