“It’s an open house for community awareness on living a healthy lifestyle”, said Sarah Porzel, the director of family and community engagement. Children also gain weight twice as fast during summer than during the school year. The day is part of the national organization’s initiative to improve the well-being of kids. Get your kids active. “It’s an opportunity to bring families out, kids have so many different activities”.

Foster an Early and Ongoing Passion for Books – Read to and with your kids. The event is open to the community and runs from noon through 3pm, with an open swim from 3-4pm.

Volunteer Together – Find a cause that matters to the kids.

Healthy Kids Day® is all about building on the “cool” factor inside every kid…whoever they are and wherever they’re from.

Competing priorities, lack of work/life balance, and money are key barriers for parents in today’s society and the Y is working to make it easier for parents to live healthier each day.

More than 1,300 Healthy Kids Day events took place across the country, with an expectation of millions of participants.

YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day is supported by Frederick Memorial Hospital.
