Money does not guarantee success – Leicester boss

Leicester City defender Danny Simpson insists the prolonged absence of star striker Jamie Vardy won’t stop the English Premier League leaders clinching the most incredible title triumph in English football history at Manchester United tomorrow. United midfielder Ander Herrera is hoping to spoil Leicester’s potential title-winning day on Sunday.

Louis van Gaal was asked how he felt Manchester United had done this season given Leicester have already qualified for the Champions League and look certain to win the Premier League.

“So I don’t think that you can say that we have not played at a certain level”.

“It’s a lot of players coming together at the right time, not just football-wise but personally as well”, he said.

“Southampton are finishing the season strongly as they bid for a Europa League slot but Man City, in action in the Champions League on Tuesday night, have to keep their mind on the job for a top-four slot in the league”.

Their record of 11 home wins this season is bettered only by Manchester City (12), who have played a game more.

Other bettors have held firm, remaining determined their team will win the league. We have to stay calm and stay hungry.

Come March, Leicester were an even money chance and later that month found themselves odds-on at 8/15 after beating Crystal Palace.

However, they are not likely to have everything go their own way at Old Trafford, as United need points in the race for a top-four finish.

“But you have to see always the situation of where the club is, and we have seen that we are in a transitional period, and when I was mentioned as the coach, it was also about that we discussed”.

Van Gaal is determined to stop that happening but expects Ranieri’s heroes to be crowned champions at some stage over the next week.

“Last week’s win really motivates us; and every game that we play motivates us and drives us on to get there”.

Guy Mowbray: “I bet you’ve heard the same as me this week a few times: “I think United will beat Leicester”. I told them, “everything is in our hands and we must continue”.

Also, while Juan Mata hasn’t won a league title, he has won the World Cup and European Championship with Spain, as well as the Champions League with Chelsea, suggesting he knows exactly how it feels to be a champion. The FA charged him with improper conduct and was suspended for the team’s 4-0 win vs Swansea and was handed down an additional one-match ban earlier this week.
