“I just heard “boom boom boom” three of four times”, one witness said. A gun was also recovered at the scene.
Nashville mayor Megan Barry responded to the shooting by saying she would continue to implement recommendations from the Youth Violence Summit Report to create a safer city.
Gunfire struck four teenagers including the intended target – 18-year-old Javious Chatman, said police spokesman Don Aaron. The three other victims, Nathaniel Webb and Jonathan Stoner, both 16, and Jalen Jeffries, age 17, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Police said a window washer on a nearby building spotted two teens running away from the bus station, and one drop a gun in the shrubbery. Officers have detained two people for questioning.
Police have been reviewing surveillance and are still looking for possibly more suspects.
The terminal is a central transfer station for schoolchildren and other passengers and an estimated 4,000 children travel through it every day, going back and forth to school, jobs and extracurricular activities, said Patricia Harris-Morehead, a spokeswoman for the Nashville MTA.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
