Bernie Sanders Will Lay Off ‘Hundreds’ of Campaign Staff

Bernie Sanders has brought his call for a “political revolution” to Indiana.

Bernie Sanders faces a tough path to the Democratic nomination, which he can only secure by winning almost every remaining primary contest.

For all the talk of hard feelings between Bernie Sanders and Clinton, whose four wins this week effectively sealed her nomination, the Republican Party is more divided ideologically and less sanguine about its front-runner.

Missouri Republicans on Saturday will choose 40 of the 57 delegates to their national convention and many may not be supporters of Donald Trump even though the businessman won the state’s primary back in March. Remember, neither Cruz nor Kasich can win the nomination before the convention. “Unusual things happen in politics”, he continued at his rally.

At least 35 of the 54 delegates told MSNBC they will back Trump – although they can change their decision anytime, unlike most delegates.

A major part of Sanders’ strategy now seems to be appealing to those superdelegates as well, who do not technically vote until the convention and will likely be the ones to officially put either candidate over the edge. But he expressed hope Sanders would point out their differences but “not assail her judgment or character anymore”. Still, the senator made his pitch today, citing the excitement around his campaign, the large crowds he draws, and how well he does with independents as reasons he is better positioned to represent the Democratic Party.

So even if women don’t pick Clinton because of her gender, women would nearly certainly favor her in November – just as they would nearly certainly favor Sanders.

“So that when we go to Philadelphia in July, we’re gonna have the votes to put together the strongest progressive agenda that any political party has ever seen”, he said. In his statement late Tuesday, Sanders specifically listed a $15 dollar minimum wage, the end of hydraulic fracking and universal health care as key components of that platform. Sanders may have tons of money, momentum, and enthusiasm, but he’s hundreds of delegates behind Clinton, along with a deficit of a million vote-plus voters.

When asked if he believes Clinton is smart, Sanders responded: “Oh, god yes, she is very smart”.

More than 150,000 young Republicans voted in Pennsylvania, and 52% of them cast their ballots for Trump, giving him his biggest win among 18 to 29-year-olds in any state so far, according to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning & Engagement.

The majority of the newly elected delegates were wooed by senior campaign officials or the candidates themselves, reflecting the campaigns’ preparations for a potentially open convention. “That’s not going to be the deciding factor for most people”. “But so many times, you’ll see people, a lot of people want to say the same thing”.

While the Cruz campaign dominated similar contests for unbound delegates in states like Colorado and North Dakota, it clearly struggled to find support in Pennsylvania. In last few weeks, he has sent fundraising emails in support of three congressional candidates in Nevada, Washington State and NY, perhaps a sign that more of this will come as well.
