Hawks will try to buck history in Game 3 against Boston
The Hawks built a 19-point lead in the first half of Game 1 before fending off a Celtics rally in a one-point win. “We’ve kinda had every lineup so, like I said, we’re going to come out strong in front of our fans and we’re just going to come out strong tomorrow”.

The Hawks took a 2-0 series lead over Boston on Tuesday night after holding the Celtics to 72 points on a woeful 32 percent shooting from the floor.
As good as Korver and the Hawks were in the early going, this one will be remembered more for the Celtics’ grisly start.
“I don’t know what it is”, said Boston’s Jae Crowder, looking a bit shell-shocked after scoring two on 1-of-9 shooting, “but we’ve got to change something”. Crowder managed to battle through for 34 painful minutes, shooting a woeful 1-of-9. After the All-Star break, he shot 42 percent from long range – including 45.5 percent in the month of March.
Kent Bazemore did not try to hide the Atlanta Hawks’ first-quarter offensive strategy: “When a guy is rolling like that, you ride that wave”. They were 3 of 23 from the field and 0 for 6 from beyond the 3-point arc. Over the first two games of this series, the Celtics were outscored in the first quarter, 54-26.
The Boston Celtics have relied on forward Kelly Olynyk’s contributions on both ends all season, but once again in Game 3 of the first round of the 2016 National Basketball Association playoffs, the Celtics find themselves without Olynyk’s floor spacing and underrated defensive contributions. “It’s like we got to get punched in the mouth for us to start playing the way we need to play”. They have learned to grind out games with shut-down defense; but their offensive inconsistencies prevented them from replicating the success of last year’s team.
“You can’t dig yourself that big of a hole early”, Stevens said, “because then that puts pressure on you to make the next one and the next and the next one”. “Not just for myself, but for everybody on this team“.
Randolph was held to just six points on 3-for-13 shooting in Game 1.
Even after failing to score the rest of the period, the Hawks still led 24-7.
That, for all intents and purposes, was the ballgame. This was a far cry from his 27-point performance in game one in which Thomas led the Boston Celtics from as much as 19-points down.
Atlanta looked like a totally different team in Game 2. Al Horford added 17 points and five rebounds for the Hawks. 16 and 28, respectively, played only sparingly this season due to Boston’s well-stocked backcourt.
In addition, Scott Souza of the Providence Journal reports that Celtics guard Avery Bradley is “very unlikely” to return at any point in this series.
The series shifts to Boston on Friday, with the Hawks leading 2-0. Even guard Marcus Smart is playing with bruised ribs, but is expected to practice Thursday.
Despite their best efforts, and despite the Hawks’ inability to put the hammer down, Boston couldn’t get close enough to get close enough. That’s just a sign of respect from [the Hawks], and I just gotta figure it out. “Just pleased with the defense, the activity in the paint, around the basket, everywhere”.
San Antonio’s suffocating defense held Memphis to franchise lows in total points and points in a quarter 12 years to the day after establishing those records on its way to a series sweep.

If Game 5 is necessary in the Atlanta-Boston, and San Antonio-Memphis series but not necessary in the Cleveland-Detroit series, they’ll play at 8 p.m. on NBA TV.
