Vault containing thousands of unreleased Prince songs is drilled open

Prince housed a vast number of unreleased recordings in a secure room known as the Vault, and only he knew the code.

Prince said of the archive in 2012: “One day, someone will release them”.

The Purple Rain icon was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park Studios estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota, on 21 April (16), and was subsequently pronounced dead at the age of 57.

‘I don’t know that I’ll get to release them.

Some Prince super fans believe that Prince’s unreleased songs should be handled more delicately as the pop icon has just passed away.

The TV network reported that the singer left behind so much unreleased material that there would be enough to release an album every year for the next century. A close collaborator with Prince, Susan Rogers, spoke on the amount of work there was in the vault, saying “we could put out more music in a month that most people could in a year”.

The news of Prince’s vault being opened comes as his sister, Tyka Nelson, claimed earlier this week that the singer had no will or trust, according to paperwork she filed in Minneapolis. The door to the vault was sealed with a large spinning wheel.

They also confirmed USA media reports that prescription drugs were at the Paisley Park complex where Prince was found dead, but refused to give further details about the type of pills discovered.
