Leicester miss first chance to win EPL title

The Foxes needed to win at United to be confirmed champions, but conceded an early goal, after an unmarked Anthony Martial slammed the ball home at the near post.

Rick Woolmer, a Leicester fan since 1963, of Corby, said: “We could have won it, maybe we should have won it, and we’re almost there”.

“It’s actually going to happen and it’s ridiculous”.

Both sides saw penalty appeals turned away by referee Michael Oliver when Riyhad Mahrez was floored by Marcos Rojo and when Memphis Depay was pulled back by Drinkwater in the closing stages of the match.

“It was very tough”. The team can still attack, and if it wasn’t for Juan Mata being a few inches too short the game may have ended completely in Manchester United’s favour. “It’s a point and it’s a step in the right direction”, Morgan told reporters.

“It proved to be an important goal and to score at Old Trafford was a great feeling”.

But Jamaica global Morgan said: “It’s not ours until we get two hands on the trophy”.

Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater was then sent off in the 86th for a second yellow card.

Leicester needs three points to clinch the Premier League title Sunday, though it can also do so on Monday should Tottenham lose to Chelsea.

Before kick-off, the scene was set for a Hollywood finish to this unbelievable football fairytale. If Tottenham are to cause an unlikely upset, they must now win all three of their remaining games and hope that Leicester fail to pick up two points from their two remaining games.

But it wasn’t to be.

Ranieri thought the draw with United was a fair result.

A win would have sealed the title for Leicester, a modest team from central England that narrowly escaped relegation last season.

Key players like Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne and Vincent Kompany were among those rested ahead of the second leg of the Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid on Wednesday, and it showed in City’s loose display at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Leicester will win the title today with a victory at Old Trafford.

King Power has been putting on screenings of Leicester games since it took over the club in 2010, but crowds once counted in double figures – drawn mostly by the free food and beer – have grown as the remarkable success story nears its conclusion.

“I’m very frustrated because I didn’t expect that performance, especially in defence”, Pellegrini said.

Ranieri managed Chelsea from 2000 to 2004, never winning any silverware with the Premier League giants.
