Champagne stays on ice for Leicester City after Man Utd draw

Leicester City managed to earn a point in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Some even saw a silver lining to the draw, which means Leicester will now win the title if second-placed Tottenham Hotspur fail to beat Chelsea today.

“I will be the last man to know the result”, Ranieri said, laughing.

“I have said to my players that I have seen one of the best matches of the season of my lineup I think, but it was not enough”.

Leicester are about to be crowned champions of England for the first time in 132 years, while United do not look close to having a title winning team.

Leicester, who drew 1-1 at Manchester United on Sunday, will complete their historic quest for the title if second-place Tottenham Hotspur can not end a 26-year wait for a victory at Chelsea.

Asked about the episode which could have resulted in a penalty for United, van Gaal told his questioner from Sky Sports: “When you see what Huth is doing to Fellaini, that’s a penalty”.

But, nevertheless, Chelsea is still a team packed with the same players that it won the title with a year ago, many of whom have stated publically that they’d do anything to stop their London rivals from beating Leicester to the title.

United remain in contention for a top-four finish and are in the FA Cup final but speculation over the Dutchman’s future at the club persists.

King Power has been putting on screenings of Leicester games since it took over the club in 2010, but crowds once counted in double figures – drawn mostly by the free food and beer – have grown as the remarkable success story nears its conclusion. “At the start United was better than us and we didn’t find a solution to give the ball without Jamie Vardy and when we wanted to restart they maintained the ball and it was hard for us”.

“Tomorrow night, I am on a flight”, said the Leicester City manager after yesterday’s events at Old Trafford.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t win the game, it’s a blow, but we have to keep going”.

Leicester will have Vardy, their leading scorer, back for Saturday’s home game against Everton but they will be without Danny Drinkwater, who will be suspended after being sent off for a second bookable offence yesterday. Claudio Ranieri then took the helm, and his side started the 2015/2016 season as 5,000-1 outsiders to claim the Premier League trophy.

Leicester defender Wes Morgan equalised for the visitors with a 17th minute header before Foxes midfielder Danny Drinkwater was sent off in the closing moments.

There’s still work to be done in these final three matches, but we must not forget that the expectation at the beginning of the season was to do just this.
