Hamas Palestinian militant group responsible for Jerusalem bus bombing

A young Palestinian died of his wounds from a Jerusalem bus bombing this week, an Israeli hospital said Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Shin Bet, the new group was active in the northern West Bank before and after the Duma murders and was behind a number of attacks including an arson attack on an inhabited Palestinian home.

He stressed that Al Qassam Brigades, Hamas military wing, will not accept but for an honourable deal. Later in the day, Gaza’s militant Hamas group said the attacker behind the bus bombing was a Hamas member, but stopped short of claiming responsibility for the attack.

The Hamas statement referred to Abu Srour, a resident of the Aida refugee camp near Bethlehem, as “our son”.

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers since October and almost 30 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks.

“These forces are patrolling in all public places, bus stations, shopping malls, tram stations”, he said. The flames scorched an adjacent bus, as well as a nearby vehicle.

Two people were eventually charged in the case, following months of investigation, with Palestinians furious over its slow pace. Serious charges would be filed against the six in the coming days, the security service said.

Israel blames incitement by Palestinian leaders and media as a main cause of the violence.
