“Folks, I’m a conservative, but at this point, who cares?” said Trump, according to The New York Times. We have to go out and do what we have to do.
“Felt like I was crossing the border”, Trump quipped during his lunchtime speech.
Trump tells a crowd in Fort Wayne, Indiana: “I don’t think it matters, but it would be nice to have the Republican Party come together”. Some of the delegates sported GOP-red outfits.
Outside, anti-Trump demonstrators broke through steel barricades and pelted riot police with eggs as the officers stood shoulder-to-shoulder in front of the hotel. With the prospect of Donald Trump clinching the nomination in the Golden State has scrambled the party’s political fault lines in advance of its pivotal June primary, forging unexpected alliances that blur those longstanding divisions. “I wouldn’t say it was even reluctance”.
Police had their hands full keeping the anti-Trump crowd from storming the hotel, resulting in several physical altercations, including shoving, between protesters and police officers, CNN reported.
Earlier Friday, bare-breasted protesters, men and women, some of whom were associated with the progressive group Code Pink, chanted “stop hate” as they marched.
Numerous protesters were angry over Trump’s stance on immigration.
A man wearing a red hat with the Trump campaign slogan “Make America Great Again” was punched in the head from behind. He said his goal in protesting Trump’s appearance was to display his country’s flag “as loud as I can”. “Nothing new about any of that”, she said.
The elected national delegates will be bound to vote for businessman Donald Trump on the first ballot because he beat Ted Cruz and John Kasich in the state’s presidential primary.
Republican party officials hand out ballots to delegates during the Virginia State Republican Convention in Harrisonburg, Va., Saturday, April 30, 2016.
At least 20 people were arrested after protests erupted in California following a campaign rally for US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Trump also dismissed poll numbers that show him struggling with female voters, predicting that Clinton would crater once he’s able to focus all of his attention on her.
Doing that, however, would mean Republicans would be better served picking a candidate from outside the field since it would likely alienate many GOP voters to select a nominee who couldn’t secure majority support from the election cycle.
But Arlett says he’s not concerned delegates might vote for either candidate on later ballots, though he says one may peel off – declining to identify a specific delegate.
“I do think if Trump’s going to pull this off, he’s going to have to study California really hard”, he said.
Missouri Democrats on Thursday selected 47 delegates for the party’s convention in Philadelphia on July 25-28.
