Cowboys RB Coach: Ezekiel Elliott’s the most complete back I’ve scouted

Elliott declared his intention to enter the draft after Ohio State’s loss to Michigan State last November.

What do you think of the Dallas Cowboys’ decision to draft Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft? Obviously Todd Gurley was a big name a year ago who panned out as a rookie for the Rams, but taking a running back in round one still has a stigma to it, mostly stemming from the selection of Trent Richardson in 2012.

The 6-foot, 225-pound Elliott was the No. 2 all-time rusher at Ohio State with 3,961 yards, trailing only two-time Heisman Trophy victor Archie Griffin. “I’m ready for the challenge”. They landed the best skill position player in this draft.

The 6-foot, 225-pound Elliott, who rushed for 1,821 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior, possesses notable quickness, vision and toughness.

He paid homage to his hometown Thursday on arguably the biggest night of his life.

4 overall pick out of Ohio State, was the highest pick for a running back in the 26 years that Jerry Jones owned the team. So those are big shoes to fill for Elliott and his new teammates.

Alfred Morris was signed nearly exactly a month ago from the Washington Redskins and though he may be a valuable asset, his production has tailed off quite a bit the last few years so there is no guarantee.

Ohio State’s Elliott, who grew up in Alton and played high school football at John Burroughs Prep in St. Louis, was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys as the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft in Chicago. Dallas took blockers in the first round three times in a span of four seasons starting in 2011.

Having veteran company in the backfield right now will also help Elliott get acclimated to the National Football League game and allow him to split carries so he doesn’t get run into the ground. “I’m coming to Dallas to win a Super Bowl”. He is far and away the best pass blocking back in this draft class. Elliott is widely believed to be a top-10 pick, while Henry may be available at the top of the second round or late in the first round. He had just 12 carries for 33 yards in the loss, which effectively ended the Buckeyes’ chances of winning the Big Ten. When you put this defense on the field for more plays, and more time, you start to see them break down, give up points, and lose games. “You want Romo playing in all the games”. It might even be the Giants with the No. 10 pick.
