Byron Cowart, Carlton Davis among arrested Auburn football players

Cowart and Carlton Davis were bright spots on the much-maligned Tigers’ defense last season, with Cowart showing his potential as a fearsome pass rusher at defensive end.

Four Auburn sophomore football players, including a returning starter, have been arrested.

Per OANow.com, four Auburn football players – Byron Cowart, Carlton Davis III, Ryan Davis, and Jeremiah Dinson – were arrested on Saturday for the possession of marijuana in the second degree near the university’s campus.

The Opelika-Auburn News were first to report the incident.

Currently, the arrest is listed as a Class A misdemeanor, which can include no more than a year of jail time and a $6,000 fine. He largely struggled as a freshman last season, finishing with six tackles while playing as a reserve defensive lineman. He suffered a serious knee injury vs. Texas A&M and is not expected to be available to play football this fall. Davis’ three interceptions were the most of any SEC freshman last season.

Dinson is expected to sit out the 2016 season after he suffered three torn ligaments in his right knee and a severe dislocation of that knee in his first year at Auburn during in the 26-10 win at Texas A&M on November 7. He didn’t record a catch last season, and gained 28 yards on a run off a trick play.
