Strong storms bring large hail and possible tornado
The NWS extended the warning twice as the storm cell continued to move north-northeast through Clinton, Boone, Tipton and Montgomery counties. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Southeast under a Marginal risk for severe storms on Tuesday. Strong storms with heavy rain, damaging winds, frequent lightning and small hail could move in and around the watch area.

There is a good chance of hail, some of it possibly quite large as the storm approaches, particularly in Cary, Apex and west Raleigh on Monday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, there were numerous reports of a wall cloud from southern Putnam County through Hendricks and Morgan counties.
Remain weather aware today and never drive through water of unknown depth, as many secondary streets will quickly flood with any additional rain that falls today.

Given the scope of the morning rains, these new storms pose a heightened risk for a second round of high water. Scattered showers are expected on Sunday but the severe weather threat will be minimal at best. This will allow cooler and drier air to finally work into our area by Wednesday, continuing through the rest of the week.
