Christian Hackenberg Drafted by the New York Jets in the Second Round

All that has been missing from having a complete defense was a quality pass rushing edge linebacker and a linebacker with coverage ability, last night they fixed the lack of a coverage linebacker with the selection of Darron Lee.

Without Fitzpatrick, the Jets have three quarterbacks on their roster: Geno Smith, Hackenberg and Bryce Petty. Burris played four seasons for the Wolfpack, and started all 38 games in the past three years. “We didn’t want to get a specialty guy and hopefully he can grow into that sooner than later”.

Look, I’m smart enough to know that I don’t have all of the answers.

While Ryan Fitzpatrick remains a free agent and in a contract stalemate, the Jets took Hackenberg, who set the school marks for career passing yards, completions and touchdowns.

“I’m excited to get with those guys and really get to work and try to build a great secondary and be legendary”, Apple said. “I can put that to bed at this point in time”.

They selected North Carolina State cornerback Juston Burris with their fourth-round pick, and then traded into the fifth to take SC offensive tackle Brandon Shell, the great nephew of Hall of Famer Art Shell. “I thought he did an outstanding job at the interview”, McAdoo said.

Hackenberg threw 1,235 passes at Penn State, and Maccagnan dissected every one of them – the good, the bad and the ugly.

The Jets made their pick, the 20th of Round 2, right after the Texans leapfrogged from 21st to 19th in a trade with the Falcons and selected guard Nick Martin of Notre Dame. “He’s a very good pressure guy”. I’m really, really fortunate, man.

“If he comes back, he comes back”, Bowles said. Though Fitzpatrick did not lead the Jets to the playoffs a year ago, the team still finished a respectable 10-6.

Hackenberg has gone through what seemed like never-ended scrutiny from the moment he stepped on the football field at Penn State, and said scrutiny only intensified when James Franklin and company (and an offense that wasn’t tailored to his strengths) arrived in town.

Smith, meanwhile, appears to be so far out of the picture now, the Jets would need an extra-wide-angle lens to get him back into it. Just think about how many times the Jets have been exposed by running backs running wheel-routes, now they have the chess piece to counter that attack.

The injury-prone Bradford, who has blown out his left knee twice, got a two-year deal for $35 million with $22 million guaranteed.

In addition to choosing the right players in this year’s NFL draft which begins tonight, the New York Jets
