Wenger: I’ve refused many clubs to stay at Arsenal

There are protests planned at the Emirates for the visit of Norwich, and although Arsene Wenger has fielded most of the criticism, Cazorla says the club must take collective responsibility.

One particular banner which read, “Wenger – 12 years of excuses, Ranieri – Champion in 9 months” reflected the harsh truth of Arsenal’s progress – or lack of it – over the last decade. I know them well, and they have less character than this team have. If it is only opinion, we all have to accept that because we are in a public job.

“We want to be a better team and do not look too much at the names”.

“But it won’t be hard to lift the players because they know what we need to do”.

“I try to play with my first instinct and be efficient, but even if I didnÂ’t score IÂ’m pleased with that assist and I will try to keep working”.

Alex Neil’s men fell to 19th, above only already-relegated Aston Villa, ahead of their clash at Arsenal as Newcastle won and Sunderland drew earlier on Saturday.

“Some groups of people try to manipulate our fans, and I believe apart from an agenda, a personal agenda, a big ego, there’s not a lot behind it”.

Danny Welbeck hopes he has made his case to lead the Arsenal line after a goalscoring cameo from the bench earned victory over Norwich in a match where Olivier Giroud struggled.

“Then the fans will want it forced, but if they finish in the top four I think we’ll be seeing the same things next year”. I have shown my commitment and care for the club and for the fans.

“I think it’s the story of the year for us”, said defender Sebastien Bassong.

The Frenchman blamed Arsenal’s faltering form on the sometimes toxic atmosphere inside Emirates Stadium this season, with the Gunners slipping out of contention amid a run of just three wins in nine league matches. It’s fundamental. It’s been a good game, a good performance but at the end of the day, we haven’t scored and we’ve lost 1-0.

But Wenger responded Friday by saying: “The best chance (Arsenal supporters) can give our team is to be behind our team”.
