Matt Cain: Mets embarrass Matt Cain in Saturday’s loss

With this being one, the feeling, more so than reality, is that the Giants have some birthright to it.

Michael Conforto finished a triple shy of the cycle Saturday for the second time this week as the New York Mets won their eighth straight game by beating the San Francisco Giants 6-5 at Citi Field. He also had his 500th stolen base as the Marlins defeated the Brewers 6-3.

The Mets’ third-inning outburst Friday helped them crush the Giants in a resounding 13-1 victory and extend their winning streak to seven.

After the game Syndergaard dismissed any notion that he was affected by the stolen bases, yet he was downcast at his locker, calling the start “disappointing” and speaking about the frustration of allowing baserunners to get big jumps against him.

The Astros loaded the bases in the ninth before Ryan Madson got Evan Gattis to ground into a game-ending double play for his eighth save, completing Oakland’s first shutout this season. Giants – Matt Duffy -.253, 2 HR, 9 RBI, Buster Posey -.273, 4 HR, 8 RBI, Brandon Belt -.300, 3 HR, 17 RBI. The Giants, a professional team that knows how to hit pitchers with good stuff, waited Syndergaard until they could figure him out in the fourth inning.

Two pitches later, Pence drove a 98 miles per hour fastball to the opposite field and over the right-field fence for his fifth home run this season and the first off Syndergaard. You’ve got to change your pace, you’ve got to give the runners something different to look at, and certainly we’ve got to get better at it. In the top of the sixth, he worked the count full to 3-2 before he pushed a pitch through the hole to right to drive in an insurance run to make it 4-0.

“One of those freaky things that you don’t ever expect to have against a team as good as the Giants”, Mets manager Terry Collins said.

When does a tie not got to the runner – when he has already been called out and you are trying to get a review.

Yoenis Cespedes set a club record with six RBIs in the inning, connecting for a two-run single and then hitting a grand slam homer which capped the scoring burst. Bumgarner has thrown 18 straight scoreless innings at Citi Field, the longest scoreless streak by an opposing pitcher in the park’s history.

The striking, intimidating figure of Noah Syndergaard remains a pitching sight to behold, his 6-foot-6, 240-pound frame unfolding toward home plate, blond locks flowing backward, baseball hurtling forward as it threatens to reach triple-digit speed. I don’t really know. “That’s my feeling. It’s hard when you give guys free bases all the time”.

David Wright had an RBI single off Derek Law in the bottom half, and Posey homered against Logan Verrett in the eighth.

“He’s tough”, Conforto said of Bumgarner. The Giants got on the board first thanks to an RBI groundout.

Although Bumgarner continued to top out at 92 miles per hour, and the Mets worked him for 112 pitches in six innings, he was able to churn outs with runners on base while holding the Mets scoreless on six hits.

But Madison Bumgarner started the game shaky. The dozen runs scored in one inning is a franchise record. Pagan appeared to injure himself coming to a stop halfway to second and subsequently allowed himself to be tagged out.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy liked what he saw from Cain in the later innings. 2B Joe Panik felt a little tightness in his groin as he broke out of the batter’s box in the ninth inning. Bochy said he wouldn’t play Monday night against the Cincinnati Reds, either. It’s the team’s longest winning streak since 2012.

The first eight NY batters reached safely, four on walks, before Matz struck out trying to bunt. Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera didn’t start after playing in the season’s first 22 games, and he struck out as a pinch hitter Sunday.
