Snyder expects expanded Medicaid coverage in Flint next week
President Barack Obama will visit Flint on Wednesday.

The Genesee County drain commissioner says Flint will save millions of dollars when it connects to the Karegnondi Water Authority, which will be serving many communities.
President Obama has no plans to publicly drink Flint’s water during his May 4 visit to the city.
Flint’s water became contaminated with lead in April 2014 when the city, while under the control of a state-appointed emergency manager, switched its drinking water source from Lake Huron water treated by the Detroit water system to Flint River water treated at the Flint Water Treatment Plant.
Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, who has faced calls for him resign over the crisis, last month promised to drink filtered Flint tap water for 30 days to show it is safe.
Snyder said Monday a state Senate committee will likely approve the funding this week – two months after the Obama administration authorized a waiver request.
The spokesman said he’s glad Snyder has time to meet with Obama, after initially saying he had a “full schedule” on Wednesday. As a result, lead leached from old pipes.
People are still being told to run their water for five minutes every day to flush the lead from the system and get the new anti-corrosion chemicals into the pipes.
Earnest said he was glad to see the governor’s schedule cleared up for a sit-down with the president, according to The Hill’s report, and has been invited to greet the president at the airport.

“What I have done, when I did get it confirmed the president was coming, is we’ve been in ongoing dialogue and I’ve made a formal request for a meeting with the mayor and the president”, Snyder said.
