The thought of filming his new movie in Australia was a source of amusement for Mel Gibson at a press conference in Sydney on Thursday.

Gibson said Doss was a very humble man, who “didn’t like to make a song and dance” about his achievements, and gave the rights to his life story to his church, which sold them after he passed away.

Garfield plays Doss, who was part of the 307th infantry, 77th Army Dvision, 1st Battalion but who refused to touch weapons and became a medic. Doss’ story was the basis of the 2004 TV documentary “The Conscientious Objector”.

The NSW Government has promised to invest an undisclosed figure into the production that Mr Grant said would bring 720 jobs and $26 million in investment to the state.

“We’re giving it back to NSW through the production of a film here”. Gibson said Knight “has done a real slap up revision for us”.

Okinawa… I think more life was lost in that Pacific battle than in any other Pacific battle”.

With Australia’s world-class crews and actors, Gibson says they’ll produce a “five-star flick here”. “There were over 300,000 casualties, mostly civilian, which is really sad”. “Hacksaw Ridge represents a welcomed economic boost to local screen production businesses and the wider economy”.
