UN endorses Iran nuclear deal with 6 world powers

However, it contains a “snap-back” mechanism that will reverse the lifting of sanctions during the next decade if Tehran breaches the deal it signed last week with the P5+1 group of countriesChina, France, Russia, the U.K., the U.S. and Germany. The 14-page U.N. resolution is legally binding and explains the method of lifting U.N. sanctions, excluding sanctions applied by the United States or the European Union.

Last week’s deal, backed by the UN Security Council on Monday, lifts sanctions imposed by the United States, the European Union and the United Nations in return for Iran’s agreement to long-term curbs on a nuclear programme the West has suspected aimed to build a nuclear bomb.

The U.S. says this is an opportunity for Iran to prove its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes.

According to the resolution, seven previous United Nations resolutions on Iran will be terminated when the worldwide Atomic Energy Agency submits a report to the council verifying that Iran has implemented certain nuclear-related measures.

Many key penalties on the Iranian economy, such as those related to the energy and financial sectors, could be lifted by the end of the year. “We must prevent the evil powers, including the merciless terror regime of Iran, (the Syrian) Assad regime, Hezbollah, Hamas and the global Islamic jihad for further igniting the already enflamed Middle East”. Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement after the Security Council vote that supported the acceptance of the agreement but also emphasized that Iran would continue to strengthen its military.

“Friends, the villain is laughing, and his laughter echoes throughout the world“.

I beg to differ because this is a good deal for only one country and that is Iran.

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully expects the door to trade deals with Iran will be back open soon following the historic nuclear deal.

In a letter sent to members of the House and Senate Monday, ADL enumerated four questions it believes members of Congress should ask in measuring the impact of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran.

“In so doing, it proves once more that it doesn’t see peace in our region in its interest and considers peace as an existential threat to itself”, he said.
