ABC is keeping it in the family for Kelly Ripa’s first guest cohost after Michael Strahan leaves this month.
Ripa’s post comes just a week after the two reportedly traveled to Turks and Caicos for a family vacation right in the middle of the ongoing work drama on her morning talk show “Live with Kelly and Michael”.
“I want Kelly to know up front that I’m only staying for one morning”, Kimmel said in a statement to EW.
“A week from this Friday is Michael’s final show here at ‘Live!'”, said Ripa on May 3 as the audience jeered.
Overtures also have been made to Cooper’s CNN colleague Don Lemon, sources tell THR.
With confusion etched upon the pair’s faces, Ripa with a laugh, responded with: “Oh-oh thanks, I’m still here”. Speaking with Hoda Kotb on her Sirius XM radio show in March, 2015, Regis confessed that despite both living in NY, he doesn’t see or speak Kelly, his co-host of 10 years. Hard to predict just who will get the gig, though, considering Michael Strahan was a baffling choice when he got hired. With Kelly and Michael, which airs each morning on ABC.
Your turn. Should Live cast someone in Kelly’s circle as her co-host?
The last time Ripa held auditions for her TV husband – after longtime colleague Regis Philbin’s exit in 2011 – it took almost a year (and 59 contenders) to fill his spot.

So host Andy Cohen, another of Cooper’s besties, asked more directly: Would he take the job if offered? While Ripa was laughing after the ordeal, Strahan didn’t appear amused and said of the armadillo, “He’s got a nice smell to him”. I mean, that could happen, but it will be a lot better for everyone involved if everything goes forward as normally as possible.
