Pens Beat Caps 3-2, Lead Series 2-1

Pittsburgh Penguins Tom Kuhnhackl (34) celebrates his goal with his teammates behind Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby (70) during the first period of Game 3 in an NHL hockey Stanley Cup Eastern Conference semifinals in Pittsburgh, Monday, May 2, 2016.

“I think there’s zero frustration in our room, to be honest with you”, Trotz said. Whatever they decide or what they don’t decide doesn’t matter to us. “They outplayed us in a lot of aspects of the game”.

Alex Ovechkin scored his first goal of the season against the Penguins in the third period, and linemate Justin Williams scored in the final minute as the Capitals tried frantically to rally.

Yet Murray, who at 21 is the youngest Pittsburgh goaltender to win in the postseason, held firm. He got only one game. “We have to make sure we understand how we have to play and what’s brought us success and we’ve got to get back to that”.

“Yeah, I don’t think I’ve had that many shots for quite some time”, said Murray. I have a feeling that we’re going to do it on Wednesday. One playoff game equates to a minimum of two regular season games for suspension purposes. Goalies-Washington, Holtby 5-4 (23 shots-20 saves). We have to score some more goals.

They doubled up the Penguins in shots for most of the first two periods – it was 28-14 after two – yet Murray turned away scoring chance after scoring chance.

Schultz likely will have to try to pull off the impossible, because he’s the Pittsburgh defenseman in line to replace Letang.

The Pittsburgh Penguins’ 3-2 victory on Monday gave them a 2-1 lead in the teams’ second-round playoff series.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety stated Letang initiated the hit after Johansson had gotten rid of the puck and “delivered a high, forceful hit that made significant head contact”. So, naturally, Letang’s hit is being put up against one from the previous game, Caps defenseman Brooks Orpik’s high elbow to Olli Maatta. I saw him coming full speed.

Baltimore Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy will be sidelined for at least a month after fracturing his left foot during yesterday’s loss to the White Sox. “I mean, you have to look at it positively. Yeah, it doesn’t look good”.

Given Orpik’s suspension, Johansson was then asked, did he expect the same thing to happen to Letang? “You didn’t see my best [Monday] night”.

Carl Hagelin made it 3-0 with just under five minutes remaining in the second period, making for a long road back for the Capitals.

As we said earlier today, the primary issue was with the lateness of the hit. Just another nasty incident in a series that has already had its fair share of them. “So, we’ve got to do the same [and] make a couple of adjustments”.

Kris Letang faced the music Tuesday morning for his late hit on the Capitals Marcus Johansson. He played 34-plus minutes in Games 2 and 3 of this particular series. Fleury (concussion) last played March 31….

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang will miss Game 4 of his team’s second-round series against the Washington Capitals after being suspended one game by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

Orpik described the decision to hit Maatta “a pretty bad mistake”. Penguins Coach Mike Sullivan said Monday that Maatta is out of the lineup for Game 3. Coach Barry Trotz apparently didn’t agree with Orpik and… actually, it’s tough to say exactly what he’s doing here.
