Ted Cruz’s surrender after getting thrashed by Donald Trump Tuesday in IN was a little surprising.

With his victory in Indiana, Trump now has at least 1041 delegates.

Bernie Sanders also faced off in Indiana’s Democratic primary on Tuesday, though the stakes were lower than in the Republican race.

“It’s been some unbelievable day and evening and year”, Trump told supporters at his building in midtown Manhattan, predicting that more and more skeptical Republicans will jump aboard the “Trump train” ahead of a tough fall election against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. Almost all Clinton voters think she will. Still, voters consider Sanders more inspirational and honest, while they see Clinton as more realistic and electable. Although it is looking more likely that Trump will win before reaching July’s convention, Trump will likely have to wait until June 7 to claim the nomination when California is among five states holding primaries.

Trump, meanwhile, is trying to unite Republicans behind his candidacy, even as he faces continued criticism from current and past rivals as well as a variety of “Never Trump” organizations.

Previewing Clinton’s general election message, top adviser John Podesta said Trump was “simply too big of a risk” to be president.

“I don’t know if he likes me or he doesn’t like me – but he is one hell of a competitor”, Trump said of his last fierce competitor whom he had dubbed “lyin’ Ted”. “We need unity in the Republican Party”. Despite their efforts, Cruz came well short of catching Trump in Indiana. Cruz, of Texas, has pleaded with IN voters IN recent days not to anoint Trump as the party’s standard-bearer, and has devised a series of long-shot tactics to derail him IN the state. But Indiana voters on both sides don’t see much of a fairness issue in the presidential race.

The Arizona Republic explains Saturday’s process: State delegates elected 27 delegates from nine congressional districts (three apiece), followed by 28 at-large delegates, but “problems with the online voting system caused delays and resulted in a period of late-afternoon restlessness among the assembled GOP activists”. Although Donald Trump won the Republican primary in the state, Ted Cruz supporters say they are determined to win the fight for delegates.

The survey was conducted for The Associated Press and television networks by Edison Research as voters left their polling places at 35 randomly selected sites in Indiana. To gain the Republican nomination, 1,237 delegates are needed.
