Chris Culliver Released by Redskins: Latest Comments and Reaction
The Washington Redskins have announced that they are releasing cornerback Chris Culliver.

McCloughan said Culliver’s rehab from the injury was going well, but the actual date of his return was uncertain. However, Culliver suffered a 2nd ACL tear in 3 years during the 2015 season.
Culliver was suspended in the second week of the season due to a traffic altercation before he signed with Washington and that suspension allowed Washington to basically void the rest of the contract. He appeared in six games with zero interceptions, before being injured during practice on Thanksgiving Day.
After giving Norman a five-year, $75 million contract, Washington simply couldn’t justify having Culliver count almost $9.3 million against the cap in 2016.
The veteran became expendable once the team signed Josh Norman as a free agent and drafted Kendall Fuller in the third round of the NFL Draft.
Aaron Wilson covers the Texans for The Houston Chronicle. “It gives him the opportunity to go out there and test free agency and our door is not closed yet, either”. “Norman came out of nowhere”.
“Chris is a professional”, general manager Scot McCloughan said on Monday.
“I just spoke to him. [Bashaud] Breeland I really respect, so we had the numbers”. They’ll save $5.5 million against the cap; if they designate it as post-June 1 they can save $8 million. “We just released him”, McCloughan told reporters several minutes into his post-draft press conference on Monday.
Aside from this, the Redskins recently acquired cornerback Josh Norman in April. So we had the numbers.

“He can go out there and test the market and see what happens and hopefully he gets what he wants. It might be here, it might be somewhere else”.
