At Kerr’s Tuesday press conference for NBA Coach of the Year, Myers looked at Walton and said, “This guy deserves a lot of credit, too”.

Walton, 36, who was born in San Diego, California, will be the 26th head coach in the franchise history.

“I was very comfortable with the idea of coming back here and coaching again next year with this team and Steve”, Walton said Saturday.

If Fisher could somehow guarantee to the Lakers that he could convince Kevin Durant to sign with the team this summer, they’d nearly certainly let him be their head coach.

Among the rumored candidates to take over was former Laker player Luke Walton. Shelburne reported Walton interviewed for the job in Oakland on Thursday, so it didn’t take long for the Los Angeles brass to be sold on him.

Walton went 24-0 as the Warriors’ acting head coach when Steve Kerr, another ex-Wildcat and one of Walton’s mentors, was sidelined earlier this season following complication from back surgery.

“I think he should have been higher”, Golden State power forward Draymond Green said.

This will be Walton’s first head coaching job. Each and every single year, Calipari ends up returning to coach the Kentucky Wildcats. Sources said he had drawn serious interest from the Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks in their coaching searches.

Kerr confirmed Wednesday that Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak asked if he could talk to Walton.

The Los Angeles Lakers announced late Friday night that they had reached a multi-year agreement with Luke Walton to become their next head coach. “Luke has done an incredible job during his two-year stint with our team and has played a significant role in our success”. “We are certainly going to miss Luke after we conclude our playoff run this season, but we wish him the very best with the Lakers”.

According to Howard Beck of Bleacher Report, Walton has agreed to become the next head coach of the Lakers. I was thinking this is going to drag out a week or two, and they’re going to want to re-interview Luke.

LOS ANGELES -Luke Walton is coming home to rebuild the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers’ future appears to be in the hands of youngsters, D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle.
