A black-and-white blazer with leather sleeves worn by the legendary musician in his classic 1984 film, Purple Rain, will be put up for auction in June, according to The Associated Press. “This is the first time ever for something like this, and it might be the only time because the rest of the costumes may be in [Prince’s personal] wardrobe”. It’s the greyish-black jacket that he wore with a white scarf on his romantic purple bike ride with co-star Apollonia Kotero.
“Prince memorabilia in general, it just really doesn’t exist”, Maddalena continued on the topic of the exclusivity of the item in the auction.
It has an asking price of $6,000 to $8,000, but is likely to fetch more at the June 29 sale. By it returning to the chart, this now marks Purple Rain’s 100th week on the Billboard 200.According to the site, Prince’s overall catalog of records sold 256,000 last week.
“It’s definitely the most important piece of screen-worn Prince clothing that’s ever come up for auction”, said Joe Maddalena, president of the auction house.
Her latest album was only announced on its day of release last weekend and has immediately rocketed to the top of the global music charts.
His publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said: “A few hours ago, Prince was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved family, friends and his musicians, in a private, lovely ceremony to say a loving goodbye”.
Below is a list of Prince’s top selling albums and songs from this past week.
As fans continue to mourn music legend Prince, his movie debut Purple Rain is back screening in North American cinemas, on TV and online.
