David Bowie leaves hidden message for fans

It seems like David Bowie had one last message hidden in the final album released before his death.

While the cover of the “Blackstar” album might look dark and bleak, it contains a very special parting gift from Bowie to his many thousands of fans throughout the world.

The album’s gatefold sleeve has a cut out of a black star, and if it is held up to sunlight (removing the record first), it transforms into a different image. Instead of a matte black star, an entire galaxy appears within the shape, in a touching and unexpected discovery. While fans have had the album in heavy rotation since Bowie died, there’s a certain surprise they missed. I wasn’t, however, prepared for it. He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life. “And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way”. “For now, it is appropriate to cry”.

Blackstar arrived just days before Bowie’s sudden death in January.

One of the biggest losses by far was the shock news of David Bowie’s passing in January, after a secret battle with cancer.

The lyrics “look up here, I’m in heaven/I’ve got scars that can’t be seen” predict his death.

Here’s the cover of the vinyl edition.

Bowie’s Blackstar is the best-selling vinyl of the past 12 months, even beating Adele’s 25. What a handsome secret.
