Alicia Keys Releases Tropical Single, ‘In Common’

“In Common”, however, is a notable departure from not just those forgettable offerings, but from the singer’s biggest hits, eschewing the heavy beats and big, brash hooks that have dominated her singles since 2007’s “No One”. Now, after four years of focusing on her family, Alicia Keys drops new music in the form of “In Common”. “You’re going to basically lose your mind”, she said back in February while discussing the prospect of new music. The track she has most recently released, “In Common”, is a decent, enjoyable song with a Caribbean flavor that might linger in your head for a day or two at most, and there’s nothing wrong with that. The single is the first off her sixth studio album out later this summer.

Produced by Illangelo and written by Keys, Illangelo, Tayla Parks, and Billy Walsh, the track is hazy and club-ready, flecked by lyrics like, “Who wants to love somebody like me?”

Alicia Keys has been laying relatively low since the promotional cycle behind 2012’s Girl on Fire wrapped, but the singer seems poised to make a bit of a comeback.

The track features smooth, sizzling production from long-time Weeknd collaborator Illangelo, and it’s the ideal compliment to Keys’ soft singing about a relationship in which the heat is rising between two companions.
