Amit Shah rally in Tamil Nadu, lables Cong, AIADMK, DMK as corrupt

He charged that DMK, AIADMK and Congress are “corrupt” and they do not “know anything other than corruption”. He also referred to the multi crore 2G scam and the aircel-maxis deal involving the DMK to drive home his point on corruption.

Alleging that AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa invoked the name of MGR only during elections to fetch votes, he said that her affection and respect for MGR were fake.

The summer of 2016 in India will see Indian politics heat up as the southern state of Tamil Nadu prepares for its State Assembly polls which are coming up soon starting May 16. “There was even corruption in milk procurement and sand mining”, he added. He said, “UJJWALA” yojana has been initiated to give free gas cylinders to five crores poor families of the country by 2019 but these schemes can not be reached to the common man in the ruling of the DMK and AIADMK governments in Tamil Nadu. Such large-scale transfers ordered by EC in the run up to the polls were “unprecedented in Tamil Nadu”, it said.

This election has been a challenge for the Election Commission (EC), which has attempted to institute some new reforms and keep older ones afloat-including the strict implementation of the ban on large-sized election hoardings, regulating of campaign expenditures, opening 700 more polling booths across the state, and even keeping up the new rule on the mandatory filing of “no dues” affidavits (from the suppliers of power, water, telephone, and drainage management organizations) by all nominees.

Addressing an election rally at Pattukottai in Thanjavur district, he said the Congress party, which had allied with the DMK for the polls, was equally corrupt and listed the cases against them.

“I urge the state’s voters to give one opportunity to the BJP-led NDA coalition”, he said.

The BJP chief said his party was the alternative to DMK, AIADMK and Congress and asked the people to vote for it. BJP is contesting the elections in tie-up with some smaller parties. According to him it was a credit to the Modi government that incidents of Sri Lankan Navy firing upon Tamil Nadu fishermen had stopped.

Referring to schemes like accident cover of Rs 2 Lakh at an annual premium of Rs 12 and life insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh for annual premium of Rs 330, Shah said the state government has not allowed these schemes to reach the common man. He said, if NDA government is formed in the state, then most of the problems of Tamil Nadu will be resolved automatically.
