Trump faces unity challenge; Kasich bows out

Ted Cruz ended his campaign after losing Indiana’s primary on Tuesday night and Ohio Gov. John Kasich then dropped out of the race on Wednesday.

The candidate will reportedly make the announcement at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio.

With Cruz suspending his campaign, Ohio Governor John Kasich becomes Trump’s lone rival for the GOP nomination, though he’s won only one primary contest. Top campaign aides vowed that the governor would stay in the race, even after Ted Cruz, who formed an informal alliance with Kasich, suspended his campaign.

John Kasich, the last remaining challenger for the Republican Party US presidential nomination has dropped out of the race.

“There are probably a lot of Republicans who look out and say the best thing for our party might be for Clinton to get elected”. He added Clinton’s slogan: “I’m with her. “Trump said Wednesday he respects Cruz and may call him to mend the one-time alliance”.

Cruz, the Texan Senator, had been counting on a win to slow down Trump’s momentum before the Republican convention in July. He’s somebody who has said so many things, and I’m sure he’ll be scrambling and his advisers will be scrambling, but he’s already said all of these things.

While the hierarchy of the party called for a rallying of support behind Mr Trump, rebellion simmered both in the rank and file of the party and also among some of its more prominent figures.

Trump will now turn his attention toward the general election against likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton – a more uphill fight than he had in the primary contest he dominated for much of the past year.

But in a series of Wednesday morning television interviews, Trump, 69, made clear he would not forget some wounds from a tumultuous primary campaign in which many establishment Republicans rejected him and spawned Stop Trump and Never Trump movements.

Some Republicans fear Trump’s poor standing with those voters will not only cost the party the White House for a third straight term but the GOP’s Senate majority as well.

“I’m sorry to see Senator Cruz step out at this point”, she said, “but with Trump doing so well, I think that the handwriting on the wall”.

With no GOP opponents left, Trump has an open path to represent the party in the November general election – presumably against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

“I know that the Clinton campaign thinks this campaign is over”.

The Republican competition changed dramatically with Trump’s IN victory and Cruz’s abrupt decision to quit the race. “You’ve got to tell people what it is you’re going to do and how you’re going to do it”. “I don’t really like hitting people first”.

In some instances, Hickenlooper will walk into unfriendly territory, considering the governor is using his superdelegate influence to back Clinton, despite Sanders securing a large win in Colorado at the March 1 caucus.

In Indiana, Kasich first appeared to agree to a deal with Cruz, in which Kasich would withdraw and leave Cruz to face Trump alone.

His Granite State focus helped him win the support of key New Hampshire figures including former Sen. I don’t necessarily want everybody, if you want to know the truth.

A spokesman for George W Bush said the former president “does not plan to participate in or comment on the presidential campaign”. While middle-aged heartthrob and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s photo hangs inside many a GOP gym locker, he’s repeatedly stated that he will not accept the nomination for president.
