“At age 91, President Bush is retired from politics”, Jim McGrath, the 41st president’s spokesman, said in an email Wednesday, the Tribune reported.
“He naturally did a few things to help Jeb, but those were the ‘exceptions that proved the rule, ‘” McGrath said.
The Bush family is keeping quiet on the 2016 presidential election.
Bush also did not attend the 2012 Republican convention.
The Texas Tribune was the first to report the news.
In Trump’s victory speech in IN, the tycoon asked his fellow Republicans to bring “unity”: “We have to bring unity – this (election) is so much easier if we have it”.
“I’ll do anything Senator Dole wants me to do – I’ll campaign for him”, Bush said at the time. “My heart lies at this level, the Dole level”.
Both former presidents have endorsed previous Republican nominees, supporting Arizona Sen.
The former president returned to the political stage during this presidential cycle in support of his brother, Jeb, and his presidential campaign.
