Celtic Manager Deila Tipped To Leave Club

The Scottish giants today announced that under fire manager Ronny Deila would be leaving the club at the end of the season in the wake of their cup semi-final loss to arch rivals Rangers.

“I would think he will receive a job offer tomorrow”.

Of course, as Gary Neville proved during an ill-fated spell at Valencia, the life of a manager is hard, and a club of Celtic’s stature will serve as a baptism of fire for Giggs. ‘I sign the players.

The Northern Ireland boss is one of a number of candidates from the province being tipped for the post at Celtic Park. When I joined Celtic I knew I was coming to one of the world’s great football clubs.

While Lennon is keen on the job, Moyes kept his cards close to his chest last night saying: “Celtic’s a brilliant club with an unbelievable fans base but I’ll wait until the summer before deciding my future”. They have played expansive football all season in the Ladbrokes Championship, but this was Celtic; this was supposed to be different.

Ronny Deila, who will stand down as manager at the end of the season, insists that he has no personal problems with midfielder Kris Commons, who has not figured much in his starting line-up, but says the Celtic squad is too big and it was tough for him to keep them all happy.

The Celtic supporters lapped up the “Ronnie Roar” when things were going well under Deila but things did not always appear so rosy with some of his players. I would do it 100 times again if I ever got the same chance.

“But the acid test was Sunday and although they lost in sudden death penalty kicks, I think the overall performance was disappointing from Celtic’s point of view”. However, it is as a manager he is best known, managing Preston before a nine-year stint at Everton, which was followed by an ill-fated 10-month reign at Manchester United after Alex Ferguson retired.

East Fife remain the last club from outwith the top-tier to win the Scottish Cup following their 4-2 triumph over Kilmarnock in a replay in 1938. This club wanted to be drifted in a positive way and have a positive economy.

The former Scotland forward is arguably the most unsafe weapon on the Parkhead books but Deila did not seem to trust the 32-year-old. Only two Parkhead bosses have managed the feat before – Jock Stein and Martin O’Neill – so it is not a given.

The 44-year-old is another to speak positively about the job recently and, like Moyes, available – unlike fellow former Hoops favourites Alan Stubbs and Paul Hartley. I’ve never hid my affinity for the club.
