Armstrong County officials said Robert Crissman, 38, ran from the jail around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday while delivering meals to other inmates.
Officials say Crissman was on work release and managed to escape through an open door. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Crissman is believed to have walked to the woman’s home, which is about a mile away from the jail.
Around 2:30 p.m. police were called to a homicide scene on Rayburn Road in Rayburn, the 911 supervisor said.
District Attorney Scott Andreassi, who described Crissman as “extremely unsafe”, said the couple did not know that Crissman was an escaped prisoner.
Crissman is white, stands about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds, as mentioned by state police.
He was in jail for violating probation on a drug charge.
He was last seen driving a maroon 1999 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab pickup. The truck has a union sticker and Pennsylvania license plate. “This all seems really out of character from the guy I knew”.

Crissman was dressed in his green jail jumpsuit when he fled, and is now a suspect in a nearby homicide, Pennsylvania State Police said.
