Bernie Sanders to ‘lay off hundreds of staff’ after defeat
Democrat Bernie Sanders’ struggling campaign returned to OR to make sure he can count on the state’s progressive voters in the May 17 primary.

On Tuesday, Sanders lost in four eastern state primaries to Clinton. Not only did Donald Trump win the vote total among Republicans in Pennsylvania but 39 of the 54 uncommitted delegates from the state say they will be supporting Trump at the GOP convention.
This despite the news Wednesday the Sanders campaign was laying off “hundreds” of workers and focusing the majority of its remaining resources on winning the final state to vote, California, in June. Bernard Sanders slammed the door on an independent run for president Wednesday and began to wind down his campaign team, vowing to “work seven days a week” and “knock my brains out” to elect rival Hillary Clinton if his own White House bid fails.
Following his loss in NY where the former secretary of state Hillary Clinton outwitted him rather easily, the win two days ago seems to have rattled his campaign.
“Bernie Sanders has a message that’s interesting”.
Other Sanders supporters, though, said they’re too afraid of Trump to back the Republican.
“I’m not going to hold my breath”, he said, “but I’ll be canvassing this Saturday with my daughter here in Lafayette”.
Sanders announced the layoffs in an interview with The New York Times. I’m inclined to keep going.’ And she looked at me and she said simple words… He told an audience of foreign policy experts in Washington: “Our goal is peace and prosperity, not war and destruction”.
Instead, Sanders stuck to comparing and contrasting their records, hitting her for a $12-an-hour minimum wage that falls short of his call for a national minimum $15 wage. “We are doing well, and it continues to be very strong”, he said.
Nader, who hasn’t made a formal endorsement, but often speaks positively of Sanders, also noted that the superdelegates who have backed Clinton are not bound and could switch their support.
“It’s whether the Democratic establishment is going to bring our party together by embracing our fight”, he said.

His campaign said late on Tuesday he would be pushing for a greater role in drafting the Democratic platform.
