Formula One: Mercedes deny Rosberg favouritism claims

When I was in karting there was one steward who was just there to make everyone’s weekend a bad weekend.

“Of course it’s not something I could have expected, to start the season with four”.

All, bar Rosberg, were title winners but he is well on the way with a 43-point lead over triple champion, team mate Lewis Hamilton, who suffered power unit problems in both qualifying and the race, with 17 races remaining.

Rosberg’s advantage means Hamilton would have to win and finish second without the German scoring to draw level.

Nico Rosberg admits he couldn’t have expected to win the first four races of the 2016 season – and says he knows that Lewis Hamilton will bounce back.

Hamilton also suspects he will get a grid penalty at some point for a stewards’ reprimand, as being censured for rejoining the track incorrectly in qualifying in Russian Federation put him within one reprimand of a grid demotion.

Wolff said social media insinuations that Mercedes had made a decision to sabotage Hamilton and give Rosberg a free path to the 2016 title needed tackling head on.

“The majority were on Nico’s vehicle last year and Nico’s guys were with me for the last three years since I joined”.

Wolff said he was speaking out because the abuse directed at the Formula One team could impact on engineers and other employees.

“It’s been an awesome weekend, the car’s been fantastic”, said Rosberg. His campaign has been blighted by poor starts in the opening two races and reliability issues in the last two races, which forced him to start from the back of the grid in China and from tenth in Russian Federation.

Although he managed to recover to second, Hamilton’s charge was hampered when his W07 picked up a water leak in the second half of the race.

The race began controversially for homegrown Daniil Kvyat, as his auto bumped Sebastian Vettel’s from behind at turn two before hitting him again at turn three, crashing the Ferrari and it’s driver into the wall and out of the race.

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and Williams’ Brazilian Felipe Massa will share the second row with Australian Daniel Ricciardo behind for Red Bull with Force India’s Sergio Perez sixth.

The Briton said: “I’m not sure I’ve ever been big believer in luck”.

“I’m out. Crashed. Somebody hit me in the. rear at turn two, and then somebody hit me in the. rear again in turn three”, the German ranted.
