Reigning NL Batting Champ Dee Gordon Suspended 80 Games For PEDs Violation
Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon can’t reach a ball hit for a single by Los Angeles Dodgers’ Chase Utley during the first inning of a baseball game, Thursday, April 28, 2016, in Los Angeles.

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced the suspension while reporting that Gordon tested positive for “exogenous testosterone and Clostebol”, two pharmaceutical no-nos. Last year, after an offseason trade to the Marlins, he posted a.333/.359/.418 line while collecting a league-most 205 hits and 58 steals. In both seasons he was named an All-Star, while winning his fist Gold Glove award previous year. In January, Gordon signed a five-year, $50 million deal with the Marlins, and he will now forfeit approximately $1.65 million in salary while he sits out (hardly a slap on the wrist considering how much Gordon is making). Marlins team president David Samson told reporters after the game that the team had been informed of Gordon’s decision Thursday but did not make it clear whether that was before or after the game. That said, I dont like or condone what he did.He will be back 80 games from now, and he will be welcomed back to this organization, he added.
“I don’t care if you get it at Walgreens, GNC, why you don’t just go to the trainer and say, ‘Hey, this stuff is supposed to make me feel better, keep me less exhausted, gives me more energy, ‘ and get it OKed?” People are going to keep trying to find a way around just the hard work and everything that goes into this game, Zobrist said before the Cubs game Friday against Atlanta. “He has put some physical strength on him, and he’s a different player”. I feel like he’s one of my kids, to be honest with you. Last Friday, Chris Colabello, an undrafted former independent leaguer who hit.321 for the Toronto Blue Jays last season, was also suspended 80 games. Initial reaction around the majors was mixed. Its just the nature of man, I believe. Colabello, like Gordon, said he didn’t know how his test came up positive.
Gordon played during his appeal, which angered Tigers RHP Justin Verlander, who said on Twitter that performance-enhancing drug news was “killing me”. They’ll help. You’ve got to be smarter about it. Gordon released a statement on Friday where he stated he is still unsure how the substances entered his system but is going to willingly accept the ban. Gordon, his agent, and the Miami Marlins said the things you would expect them to say about this. “We’re going to love him through this process and love him any way we can”.
