Virgil Hunter: Amir Khan doesn’t have a killer instinct

WBC champion Alvarez will put his belt on the line against British underdog Amir Khan in Las Vegas this weekend, the Mexican’s first defence of the strap he won against Miguel Cotto in November a year ago.

“It’s my time and I’m going to grab it with both hands”, he told a press conference on Wednesday. I can’t lose focus. You see kids come in the gym, they want to hurt somebody: right away, you know that’s killer instinct. “That hurts. We want to show him a lot of the immigrants who come here come to succeed and be victorious”.

Khan (31-3, 19 knockouts) is a two-time former world champion and has oozed confidence in Las Vegas this week despite not having fought since his unanimous decision over American Chris Algieri almost a year ago.

The British boxer, who normally boxes at welterweight, faces a daunting battle against the hard-hitting Alvarez on Saturday in a fight that many believe is a risk too far for the 29-year-old from Bolton.

“I’m very happy with the work that I’ve done – he’s a very fast, elusive, tricky fighter”. I will be the new world champion.

“Canelo is going to be stronger, but things I have that are better than him are speed and movement”.

De La Hoya said Trump would see “a wonderful, wonderful event with one of the most popular fighters in the world hailing from Mexico, and one of the most popular fighters in boxing – who is Muslim – and we want to show what a great contribution these two fighters can make to the handsome United States of A”.

“I’m training hard for 12 rounds, I’m ready to go all of those rounds”, said Alvarez, who claimed the WBC middleweight crown with a unanimous decision over Miguel Cotto in November. The consensus is that Amir’s key to victory will be speed – one of Khan’s advantages going in – and Hunter also indicated that body punching is one of his charge’s best attributes. “But if the knockout presents itself, I’m ready to take it”.
