Protests at Trump California rally turn violent

Raucous protesters and supporters of Donald Trump violently confronted each other in California leading to some 20 arrests as the Republican presidential contender brought his campaign to conservative Orange County after sweeping the Northeast GOP primaries.

Protests at a California rally for Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump reportedly turned violent Thursday, with 20 people arrested after a police vehicle window was smashed and rocks were thrown. After the event, however, the demonstration grew rowdy and spilled into the streets.

Hundreds of anti-Trump protesters clashed with drivers and police Thursday evening in Costa Mesa. They smashed at least one patrol car’s window and punctured the tires on a police sports utility vehicle, while trying to overturn another police auto.

A few loud, lingering voices remained outside the Hyatt in Burlingame following Donald Trump’s presidential pitch to the California Republican Party’s state convention Friday. On Thursday night, protesters tangled with authorities and damaged police cars after a Trump rally in Orange County. Stichter also said he wasn’t aware of any injuries, but several scuffles broke out between Trump supporters who were leaving the rally and people in the streets who accused them of being racist.

“No hate in our state”, demonstrators chanted early in the day, with a few carrying Mexican flags in protest of Trump’s anti-immigrant policies. Before the night was over, demonstrators attacked at least one police vehicle, shattering its windows. Many waved Mexican flags, a comment on Trump’s promise to build a wall between the USA and Mexico.

While speaking to the Republican convention, the billionaire made light of the situation, joking that he now knew what it felt like to cross the U.S. -Mexico border.

Back window has been smashed out of a Costa Mesa police cruiser. Protestors began gathering prior to the rally with anti-Trump signs, while Trump supporters flocked to the venue in support of their preferred Republican candidate. A Trump backer, she said Friday that voters will rightfully be incensed if Trump doesn’t win the nomination in Cleveland in July because of maneuvering at state conventions.

The Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa was filled to its capacity of about 18,000 people and hundreds more were turned away.
