UGA president Jere Morehead, who planned to hold a news conference at 11 a.m., said he was deeply saddened by the students’ deaths.
Berry says the five university students were in one of the cars.
Four female University of Georgia students have been killed and another student critically injured in a auto crash.
The State Patrol said troopers don’t suspect that alcohol played a role in the crash. Reports indicate that the Camry carrying the five young women appears to have crossed the center median abruptly, causing the vehicle to hit the oncoming auto driven by 27-year-old Abby Short, who was also hospitalized following the crash.
The five women were traveling north in Oconee County near the university in Athens late on Wednesday when their auto entered the southbound lane for unknown reasons, the Georgia State Patrol said in a statement. Kim was transported to Athens Regional where she remained in a coma as of Friday at 4:30 p.m. We are praying for the family and friends of these students, and ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers, as well.
Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said in a post on the department’s Facebook page that the family members were making their way to town.
“The loss of any student is very hard”. “And obviously, we can’t all pile into a hospital room at the same time, so we figured the next best thing to do was to have a prayer service in an open area where as many people can attend as possible”.

The crash occurred when the students’ auto crashed with another vehicle on Georgia Highway 15 in Oconee County, which neighbors Clarke County where UGA is located.
