San Diego Chargers select Ohio State’s Joshua Perry

Ratings for the first-round of the NFL Draft Thursday night on ESPN were minuscule in the Boston market, at least in comparison to the viewership the league’s marquee off-the-field event usually draws locally. The Bears traded the 11th overall selection in the first round and their 2016 fourth round selection to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 9th overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The seven players drafted in the first two rounds tied an NFL Draft record. The Buckeyes also had five players chosen in the opening round of the 2006 draft.

Bosa was a surprise pick by the San Diego Chargers. All three – defensive end Joey Bosa, running back Ezekiel Elliott and cornerback Eli Apple – are just 20 years old.

The linebacker has a few quirks, he spoke about at the NFL Combine and in an interview with SB Nation, where he talked about being particular about his barbers – and would rather shave his own head than get a messed up cut – and also that he prefers going by “Joshua” because that’s the name his parents gave him. Pretty exciting. The thing that’s going to be cool is making a transition with someone I already know.

“We’re going to track guys (on social media), and absolutely we’re going to use that for recruiting”, Meyer said before the draft. From that squad, 28 players were selected over the next three drafts, with nearly all the starters and key backups being picked.

“It’s been ideal so far, ” coach Mike McCoy said.

More talented Ohio State standouts remain on the board for the third and final draft day. “I think he’ll be able to some different things in our defense as he gets older”. “It’s not philosophy or theory, it’s testimony”. Cardale Jones and Jalin Marshall should follow in the coming rounds. If a team has a need surely it shouldn’t be a reach, however if you select a player in the first round you expect him to come in and start. The USC drafts from Pete Carroll teams from 2006 to 2009 were something special with 37 players taken over four drafts, but even those talent powerhouses couldn’t do what the Buckeyes just pulled off when it comes to its historic two days in Chicago.
