Warning against Trump, Clinton urges Democrats to unite

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Hillary Clinton urged Democrats on Thursday to unite around her candidacy as a way of fending off Republican Donald Trump, telling black community leaders that her advantage over Bernie Sanders far outpaces the deficit she faced in the 2008 primaries. For his part, Sanders has indicated he is likely to stay in the fight in part to promote his message, but Trump’s competitors were hoping to still play spoiler. “What happens next will test the character for all of us – Republican, Democrat, and Independent”, read another.

“So I’m going to do everything I can to stimulate political discourse in this country and get young people, working people, involved in the political process”, he said.

Some Democratic officials have said Sanders has virtually no chance to turn the convention on its head – largely because of the massive superdelegate support already in Clinton’s corner and the Vermont senator’s dwindling opportunities to close the gap. Politico reported Cruz was mathematically excluded from the nomination a week before the in primary, but apparently common sense wasn’t enough to stop his campaign. If he were to hold onto his 39 superdelegates and pick up the remaining 160 undecided votes, he would still need 159 delegates now supporting Clinton to clinch the nomination.

Sanders won Tuesday’s IN primary and is aiming to pull off a string of victories against Clinton IN upcoming contests IN West Virginia, Kentucky and Oregon.

After tonight’s victory you can bet some who questioned their faith have renewed hope that will lead them to the polls two weeks from today. But in some later states, it gets tougher. He says he’s counting on primary voters in New Jersey to help him topple frontrunner Hillary Clinton when they go to the polls next month, but Garden State residents have other ideas.

Russell’s floor amendment would ensure that all delegates, including superdelegates, are allocated proportionately to a state’s caucus results in the next presidential election.

In addition, he acknowledged, superdelegates would have to change their minds. “And I think we can make that case”.

Sanders has faced increasing pressure to exit the race so that former secretary of State Hillary Clinton can focus her resources on the general election, particularly now that the Republican side has consolidated (well, sort of) around Donald Trump as the presumptive nominee.

Clinton then listed Trump’s immigration positions, including his promises to build a wall along the border and “scrap” President Barack Obama’s executive orders on immigration. Rather, he said that he wants to prevent Trump from winning in November. “I think one needs to take that into account, but also one’s own experience”.

“With each victory, Sanders’ political revolution is forging a Democratic Party that is stronger and more engaged than ever before”, he said.

The question is whether Sanders’ following will switch to Clinton when (going out on a limb here) she secures the nomination, or whether they will just stay home. Clinton apologized for that remark this week.

At this point, despite the surprising success of Sanders’ campaign, it’s still most likely we are looking at a Clinton
nomination.
