Reports from local police showed Wagner opened fire in a high school prom shooting at random victims.

Jakob Wagner, 18, was teased while attending Antigo High School, about 180 miles north of Milwaukee, because of his bad hygiene, Emily Fisher, a 19-year-old former classmate, told the Wausau Daily Herald.

Officers say they’re not sure why Wagner was there and couldn’t comment on how much damage he was prepared to do because it is an open investigation.

Antigo High School set up counseling to be available on Monday to students and staff who were traumatized by Saturday night’s prom shooting, but Reed said her children do not want to go back. The school district issued a statement that said in part “quick actions’ taken by police and district staff to secure the building “prevented what might have otherwise been a disaster of unimaginable proportions, and we are extremely grateful for their well-rehearsed response”.

“Heartbroken, shocked, I didn’t know how to handle it at first”, said Antigo High School student Nick Gabowsky. Deep is class president at the school and was involved in the coordination of the prom.

But Police Chief Roller assures the community is safe, saying “At this point, we feel that we have the subject in custody that was a threat”.

Police Chief Eric Roller says an officer who was in the parking lot shot Wagner. The suspect had reportedly been dating a current student at the school who broke up with him last month, according to CBS News.

For security reasons students are allowed no re-entry once they leave prom. The bullying occurred since at least middle school and persisted through high school, although to a lesser degree, Fisher said.

Mills says the Wagner he knew was “a good kid”.

Though students came to school as usual – attendance rates seemed typical – it was anything but a normal day, Zamzow said. Police said the girl was treated and released for a graze wound to her thigh, while the boy underwent surgery this weekend and is now recovering. Officials say there will be a heightened police presence around the high school over the next few days. Wagner was transported to a hospital and died from his injuries on Sunday morning.

At about 11 p.m. Saturday night, students were dancing at prom, and then they saw police lights. “We had a tremendous response immediately that evening”.
