England coach Roy Hodgson could also be without midfielder Jordan Henderson for Euro 2016, with the Liverpool captain now out with a knee ligament injury.
The German global is out of Euro 2016 this summer, after dislocating a knee in training on Wednesday.
The playmaker, who has been linked with a summer transfer to Manchester City, has struggled for fitness this season, featuring in just four matches in the last two months.
The midfielder’s representatives were spotted in Amsterdam in March meeting with Manchester City’s Director of Football Txiki Begiristan.
He missed training yesterday and Dortmund have today confirmed their fear that the 25-year-old had suffered another injury setback.
Stephan Uersfeld is a Germany correspondent for ESPN FC and runs a blog Dietfried Dembowski.
The club confirmed the news on Friday afternoon after Gundogan had already been ruled out of Saturday’s Bundesliga encounter with Eintracht Frankfurt, with Dortmund having to win and hope Bayern Munich slip up at Ingolstadt.
