US House Speaker Paul Ryan refuses to back Donald Trump

“I stood on the stage in Cleveland and said that I would support the nominee…I’ve said it repeatedly since then, and I will be supporting the Republican nominee once that’s officially set”.

Said Reid: “I guess they want…” But I think what is required is that we unify the party.

But given that Trump will nearly certainly be the official GOP presidential nominee, does that mean that the hesitant Ryan will back Hillary Clinton instead?

Admitting that he has subtly called out Trump during the 2016 primary race, Ryan said, “I will do that in the future” if necessary.

When asked about backing Trump, Ryan told CNN on Thursday: “I’m not there right now”, although he hoped to be eventually.

Ryan, the speaker of the US House of Representatives, said conservatives wanted to know if Trump shares their values.

Instead, it’s a shot across Trump’s bow – an attempt to warn the billionaire that he can’t take Republican Party support for granted just yet.

The Bushes’ cold shoulder may be seen as personal since Mr Trump tormented Jeb Bush during his White House run, labelling him “low energy” and “an embarrassment to his family”.

“Paul’s just being honest”, Priebus said of the House speaker. Instead, thanks to Trump, this year the Republican Party remains asunder, with prospects for coming together uncertain. Bernie Sanders should drop out of the contest and cede the Democratic nomination to former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, the president said, “Let’s let the process play itself out”.

“I think what a lot of Republicans want to see is that we have a standard bearer that bears our standards”, Ryan said.

However, Trump fired back immediately.

Trump said the American people have been “treated so badly” by politicians in Washington, and hopes to be in a position to change that.

Following Donald Trump’s win at the IN primary last Tuesday, the smoke has cleared on who will be the Republican nominee.

“Paul Ryan is the single most effective tool and person to maintain control of the Senate and the House”, said Zwick, who attended a Detroit-area fundraiser with Ryan on Wednesday.

“He’s focused on an agenda”.

“As a general rule, I don’t pay attention to Mr. Trump’s tweets”, Obama added.

And the #NeverTrump super PAC fired off a press release applauding Ryan.

In his first remarks about Mr Trump’s presumptive nominee status, Mr Obama had a message for the media: “This is not entertainment. It’s fine. But I was surprised by it. Many other people were surprised by it and some were really surprised by it and not happy about it”, Trump told Fox News in an interview.
